Starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman, Prisoners stands as a forensic crime drama that takes the viewer through the mental anguish a father (Jackman) experiences, when his daughter is kidnapped. With Jake Gyllenhaal playing the role of the police officer who takes the case, the movie also features Paul Dano as a disturbed individual who is the major suspect.

The critically well-received film explores issues of crime, innocence, and guilt, and the lengths a father will go to find out the truth. Jackman even resorts to torture, after experiencing a nihilistic despair and rage, and feeling that Gyllenhaal has not gone far enough in pursuing the case. The movie brings up timely questions in an era in which the question of appropriate methods of fighting terror is in the public spotlight.
